Sun Domingo

Between returning from the October sprint through Italy, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands and Belgium with The Pineapple Thief, working to launch a new sundomingo and finishing material for our the current release "Songs For End Times", Sun Domingo has certainly been keeping busy. Also having the privilege to write and record on the new album with Steve Hogarth, Adrian Belew, John Wesley and Bruce Soord.... It is in this spirit of metamorphosis and rejuvenation that we are happy to welcome to the band some old friends and new faces.
Kyle Corbett (Vocals, Guitar) has been a figure in Sun Domingo’s peripheral vision since the beginnings of the band itself. Having been friends and schoolmates with original members Brian Chenault and Forrest Burtnette, Kyle often sat in with Sun Domingo wherever their paths crossed over the last several years. Working in a side-project with Edgel in 2009/10 brought him to the fold even closer still. The addition of Kyle’s earnest songwriting and highly combustible energy is a great boon to the band and fans alike.
Daniel Gordon (Bass, Vocals, Keyboards) is the newest member to the Sun Domingo family and has been more than a key ingredient since joining. Prior and current to joining the band, Dan was busy playing, writing and recording songs in Los Angeles for well known artists and being a go-to-guy in the studio for the MIDI Mafia outfit, amongst others.
Started by Edgel Groves Jr. in 2004, along with the guidance and inspiration of Jupiter Coyote’s Matt Mayes, Sun Domingo has logged countless miles and more than 1,500 shows across America and Canada. SONGS FOR END TIMES - Foreword
The cover art for this album was inspired by a news article I happened upon last year about the current level of space debris surrounding our earth. More than words, I was so taken aback by the article's accompanying rendering of defunct satellites, spent rocket stages and clusters of waste enveloping the planet I thought I knew so well, that tears spontaneously leapt from my eyes.
I am not one to fall prey to empty sentimentality or to immediately decry, out of hand, the nature of Man’s insuppressible drive to increase his technological prowess for the greater good but, the realization that our world, however polluted, politically partitioned and painfully homogenized, has become so irrevocably distorted from both our collective hubris and our ability to disengage from the grave reality of our present state, overwhelmed me with a sense of loss I had never previously experienced.
Our planet is an organism and like every human, animal, plant and living thing which is its inhabitant it is now imperiled by our inability to balance the impulsive or extravagant desire with the imperative need. Furthermore, the situation we find ourselves facing is all the more difficult to address in these days when pleading to a person’s sense of compassion is so often labeled as socialistic and admonishing the more pernicious-aspects of our race is usually left to the anachronistic ranting of religious zealots. To find the right combination of loving-kindness and fury to connect directly with those upon whom our existence ultimately depends is no simple task.
Naming this album Songs for End Times is not to imply that this is the proposed soundtrack to the final days before some horrific, apocalyptic cataclysm that ends humanity as we know it. Rather, it is an attempt to engage a spirit within, that without arising in the other, lies dormant within ourselves. Let us not weep for yesterday, nor wait for tomorrow but become awake in this moment so that we, together, may make certain that the ‘end times’ remain something of our imagination. /kc
